Dosage and Administration
Always take DEFODIN exactly as your physician has told you.
You should check with your physician or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Apply DEFODIN antiseptic undiluted to the affected area and leave to dry.
Rinse thoroughly if applicable after application.
Medical advice is recommended in case of prolonged usage.
- Route of administration
DEFODIN is applied topically.
a- If you use more DEFODIN than you should:
- Excess iodine can produce goitre and hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
- Repeated application of Povidone iodine to large areas of wounds or burns lead to systemic absorption of iodine which may lead to a number of adverse effects: metallic taste in mouth, increased salivation, burning or pain in the throat or mouth, irritation and swelling of the eyes, pulmonary oedema, skin reactions, gastrointestinal upset and diarrhea, metabolic acidosis, hypernatraemia and renal impairment.
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be provided in case of deliberate or accidental ingestion of large quantities of DEFODIN , with special attention to electrolyte balance and renal and thyroid function.
b- If you forget to use DEFODIN :
If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it.
However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
c- If you stop using DEFODIN :
Do not stop taking DEFODIN unless your physician tells you to.
